Three Reactions

Spoilers follow in abundance.

Catwoman #72
To paraphrase Gabriel Garcia Marquez: never was the sundering of a mother-child bond more foretold.

Now that the character has been put through a soul-crushing, much-expected psychological trauma, can we all move on, now?

I'm going to pretend the whole "One Year Later" story-line never happened, and am using this as the image with which I move forward with the character:

The Brave and the Bold #7
A satisfying story teaming Wonder Woman and Power Girl, who join forces to save a Superman-in-distress. Like Starsky and Hutch, Martin and Lewis, and Abbot and Costello: two great characters that go great together.

My favorite line in the entire comic is Power Girl's "No" answer to Wonder Woman's exasperated question.

The Death of the New Gods #1
Upon discovering the body of his beloved, Mr. Miracle (understandably) begins to make use of the Anti-Life Equation, and then stops himself because, he realizes, Barda would not have wanted him to.

Scott, although you've pretty much been an exemplary husband up 'til now, you must realize that you can't really know what what Barda would have wanted unless you specifically asked.

I'm hoping, of course, that the impending changes to the DC universe fix this ... someway, somehow ... when the dust clears.

Comments:
Man. DC is something I want to read less and less. Let me just double-check but Cat #$72 was: Great Baby Give Away (lolz failure as a culmination) followed by (more or less) It was All a Dream? Talking tough ain't bein' tough (unless you're a girl). And more dead characters, too? So how is that gonna work for BoP?

Pffft. *waves around a jian and runs off to kill pirates and royal navymen*

Yo, KKG!

It looks like DC actually doesn't seem to care about how the loss of both Knockout and Barda would affect the dynamic that Gail Simone set up with these (wonderful) characters in BoP.

I still cling to the (remote) possibility that we'll discover at some point that the OYL-Selina is actually the Earth-49 Catwoman, who was transported (somehow) to our earth after she incurred a nasty concussion ... or ate some rancid tofu ... or something. Having revealed that, the "real" Selina could then re-appear!

I honestly believe that all this FUBAR and DeathDeathDeath is being permitted because Final Crisis will reboot everything back to pre-OYL. (Or something new). Judging by the multitude of soft retcons throughout the DCU following OYL, I think this Selina may as well be from Earth 49. I honestly view Catwoman as a soft reboot with issue #53. Likewise, Batman has become a laughably irrelevant book. There's also no telling of the New Gods will stay dead, either. Final Crisis, and all that.
